Let’s Take a Moment, Together

Can you take a breath with me here? Just for a moment. Together. Slow down enough to watch our stomachs rise and fall. For so many of us, it’s a time of heightened pressure. The election around the corner. Soccer games and school runs. Temperatures dropping, if you’re in the northern hemisphere. Fall brings a time of letting go of the old and adopting new routines. And yet the dominant culture of busy keeps whispering to-do’s in our ear. How is this cycle or season of your life going for you? Speeding by? Or humming at a nice pace?
Let’s take a moment and hit PAUSE. No, really. Stop. Take another deep breath. Let it out. Pause.
Pauses are one way we can release pressure. They can help us (re)connect with our animal body. What does it feel like for you to pause? Any tense spots? Do you need to adjust your posture? Is your chair uncomfortable or supporting you just the way you need? Can you let go of pressure anywhere? Can you give your body and mind permission to relax, settle and be present for just a moment?
Like all mammals, humans need time to settle in and connect with ourselves, our surroundings, and those around us. We need to periodically slow our pace to choose the next steps with awareness. We can only do this if we practice the pause, even for a moment.
So, the next time you find yourself moving quickly and in a bit of a spin, see if you can pause and reconnect with your self, your surroundings, and your inner wisdom.
